My friend, Sindy (Happy 3rd blogiversary Sindy!) from bluebutterfliesandme offered a”Retro” challenge for this Mercury Retrograde, which ends June 11th. Since a positive aspect of Mercury Retrograde asks us to look back, a lot of people are reblogging wonderful older posts. However, since I have only been blogging for about 7 months, I didn’t feel that putting up an old post would be that Retro. Sindy said – “Just post something that starts with ‘re’ like renew or refresh’” So, I am answering the challenge with a post that I thought about doing about 3 months ago (so, sort of retro) when the evening grosbeaks were here. I took a lot of pictures of them, and they just made me laugh. We are all trying to make Mercury Retrograde fun since it can be so frustrating!! It will be a miracle if I am even able to post this because my computer keeps freezing. You guessed it – Mercury Retrograde!!
So in light of Sindy’s challenge, to look back and make it fun, this is what Mercury, in its sillier Self suggested I create. So here you go.
I’m a happy bird!
Dude, check out that chick on that tree to my right. No wait! Don’t look…she’s looking over here.
I’m kind of full. I can hardly swallow another seed.
Ok, but you have to promise not to tell! Any. One.
Oh, Man!! Hahahaha! Stop! You’re killin’ me! Hahaha! Please stop! I can’t even get up!
Shut up!
What are they all talking about? The meaning of life? Are we here for a reason?
Dude! What’s with the photo bomb?!
Huh….she seems mad. Was it something I said?
Making up is nice.
Yay! I am jumping for joy.
Or
“Funny how in dreams your feet never touch the earth.” Heart
Lalala…My, oh my, what a beautiful day. Plenty of sunshine coming my way. Zippity do da, Zippityay!
Wow. It’s like that seed is in mid air.
Whaaaaat?
Girl’s night out tonight, Gladys?
You look different. Do you mind if I just peck you on the head?
17 – 4. Ummmmmm….I know this one….
Thinkin’….thinkin’……thinkin’
13! Yeah, that’s it. 13 Phew!
Two girls. Wow, my lucky day.
Noooooo! She likes him!
Quit looking up her skirt!
I hate it when I blush!
You must like that Tai Chi move. You do it all the time!
Happy Mercury Retrograde, folks! I know it’s exasperating and hard. Try to enjoy it. It’s almost over! It can be fun to hang out with friends you haven’t seen for a while, watch old movies, or let yourself be distracted when you have technology glitches, and just do something different. Let’s take Sindy’s and my astrologer friend, Katrin’s advice and make Mercury Retrograde FUN!
Thanks so much, Mary, for leading the way in modeling how to have fun with Mercury being retrograde. Hmm… I thought retrograde referred to my grade school report card! Delightful post!! Keep ’em comin’!

This is great Mary. Such beautiful shots you have shared. The comments are perfect. The retrograde is a tough time for our minds and stress and so stillness and nature is the answer! Thankyou; 🙂

That was hilarious! I can’t stop myself from grinning! I’m stuck in perpetual 😀 thanks to your amazing pictures, and your fabulous sense of humor!
Which reminds me, I saw the most amazing show last night, which if you haven’t seen it, you’ll possibly love it! It’s called Hidden Kingdoms (on Netflix streaming) and was about life below the surface! Tonight is part two, which I’m looking forward to…
OH! and I found three feathers in my yard some time back, beautiful yellow, and I can’t say for sure, but perhaps they could be from Grosbeaks? I don’t know their specific stomping grounds, but I hadn’t seen any yellow winged birds here before.

Hahaha, I’m glad you thought it was funny. I laughed doing it.
That netflix piece sounds interesting. I have been meaning to join netflex. We can’t stream here, but I could send for DVDs.
Hmmm, yellow feathers. We only have the evening grosbeaks for a couple of months late winter/early spring. I guess they go north. Do you live in NY? Could be them or goldfinches or warblers or do you have Baltimore orioles? They are more orange. I always depend on my Peterson and Sibly bird books.
Thanks for reading and for your wonderful comment. Made me smile, and laugh a little. 🙂

Yes, I’m sure you can get Hidden Kingdoms on DVD. Some things are strictly streaming, but most also come in DVD.
Yes, I’m in the Mid Hudson Valley in NY. The feathers are larger, I think, than goldfinches’ feathers would be. Not sure about warblers, and I don’t believe we have the Baltimore Orioles. There are cardinals, sparrows, another small bird (possibly juncos ?), chickadees in winter especially. Of course there are hawks, and crows, and we have a falcon which lives right around our house.
The feathers I found have yellow against black, and the inside of the feather is quite yellow at bottom, with black at top. It’s a bright yellow. I have a Book of North American Birds, and the Evening Grosbeak or the Yellow Warbler might be the closest and are shown to be in the area.

Oh Mary, thanks so much for the laugh. I have been at work all day and came home a bit cranky, that post was a mood changer 😀 Thanks so much for making us all a very happy Mercury Retrograde. With some glitches. lol

You know I love birds right? I was just watching a pigeon and pondering its behavior, before I came in and read this.

Oh, so glad you laughed. Crankiness is no fun. I figured you probably loved birds the way you love Nature. Isn’t it fun watching their behavior? Also kind of fun to anthropomorphize to an absurd extreme. Haha. This post was fun to do. Thanks for putting the challenge out there. ❤

lol I too anthropomorphize the birds. If you watch them they are saying something. I just always wonder what it is. It was my pleasure and gave me a more positive attitude toward MR.

Hahaha very funny bird watching. Bird talking -looks they are having some retrofun themselves. lovely pictures and we all certainly need to enjoy the nature we live in.
Makes me just that much more appreciative that I am not in front of a computor or driving a car. loved it. Now I am going outside to work in my garden and watch for the grosbecks. Mercury just can’t effect me there. Thanks MB

Beautiful grosbeaks – we don’t get them very much anymore, sadly. Fun captions. I forget about MR, that would explain my day yesterday, not one of my best! 😉

Hi Eliza, Thanks for stopping by. Glad you liked the captions. Sorry you had not your best day yesterday. MR can be so frustrating! Especially when stuff needs to get done!! I hope today is a better day. Take care.

I have tried to photograph birds often. No luck so far, but I keep observing them. Sometimes we make eye contact and just chill together.

Right, because I wasn’t anthropomorphizing at all. It was all what they were really thinking! haha
